Scorpio N Crash Test Rating: A Disappointing 0 in 2023.
The Australasian New Car Assessment Program, more commonly referred to as ANCAP SAFETY, is Australia and New Zealand’s independent voice on vehicle safety. ANCAP has tested the Scorpio N and the SUV has scored 0 star in crash test. This is surprising because in Global NCAP crash test, Scorpio N has scored 5 stars. Well, there is reason for 0 star rating because ANCAP gives 0 star rating to all the vehicles which are not equipped with ADAS or Advanced Driver Aids System. The entity does not consider any other factor, if the vehicle is not equipped with ADAS, then the safety rating is 0 by default.
Modern vehicles are equipped with an array of advanced safety features designed to mitigate the impact of accidents and protect occupants. The Scorpio, unfortunately, lagged behind in this aspect, lacking crucial safety technologies that have become standard in many contemporary automobiles.
The test reports says that in the full-width frontal offset test, the protection of the driver dummy was weak for the chest and good for all other critical body areas. Protection of the rear passenger head, neck and chest was poor based on dummy and high seatbelt loads. While in side impact, the protection offered to all the critical body regions of the driver was good however the driver seatbelt was observed to unlatch during impact, increasing risk of the potential injuries.
In the Child occupant protection test, SCORPIO N scored 14.27 points out of 16 in the dynamic test, in the side dynamic test, the rating was 8 out of 8. And in on-board safety features there were 7 points out of 13.
The 0-star rating from ANCAP undoubtedly has a profound impact on consumer confidence in the Scorpio. Potential buyers prioritize safety as a top consideration when choosing a vehicle, and a failing grade in crash tests can deter even the most loyal customers.
The Scorpio N’s disappointing performance in the ANCAP crash test highlights the critical need for manufacturers to prioritize safety in their vehicles. As consumers become increasingly discerning about the safety of their automobiles, the automotive industry must rise to the challenge and ensure that vehicles meet the highest safety standards.
